Clothing-optional and nude beaches on the North Sea, Germany

The North Sea coast in Germany is deeply rooted in the Freikörperkultur (FKK) tradition, featuring numerous official nudist beaches with well-marked FKK sections and amenities. On the island of Sylt, the iconic Buhne 16 and Kampen beaches were among the country’s first official nudist spots, offering natural dunes, relaxed atmospheres, and a bohemian vibe. Other marked nudist beaches on Sylt include Abyssinia and Samoa. At Sankt Peter-Ording, the Ording Nord beach boasts wide sandy dunes and dedicated FKK areas ideal for naturists.

The town of Cuxhaven features Strand Duhnen with an enclosed, private FKK section on its long sandy coast by the Wadden Sea. On the island of Borkum, nudists enjoy both lively and secluded beach areas, including a nudist zone with a beach sauna. The North Sea coast also includes beaches on the islands of Föhr and Norderney with dedicated FKK zones. These German North Sea nudist beaches are family-friendly, spacious, and typically integrated into seaside resorts, reflecting a long tradition of body freedom and naturism.
